Living in Italy

Each university provides information on specific support services for international doctoral candidates on its website.

For further information visit the Euraxess Italy website.

Visa and residency permit

Following the confirmation of acceptance by the university, candidates must contact the relevant diplomatic mission for their visa application.

The request for a residency permit may be carried out at a post office within eight working days after the doctoral candidate's arrival in Italy. Desks are also set up at some universities to assist students. Upon submission of the request to the post office, the international student will be invited to go to the police headquarters. The residency permit is issued by the central police station (Questura) and entitles the doctoral candidate to live temporarily in Italy.
